A university official and others are arrested by Sierra Leone police for attempting a coup.

The authorities of Sierra Leone have made substantial progress in connection to the attempted coup that occurred on November 26, 2023. The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have apprehended several individuals suspected to be involved in the attempted coup, including George Adams, Moses Kargbo, and Saidu Kargbo. George Adams, who is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the Earnest Bai Koroma University in Makeni, was considered to be a significant suspect in the coup attempt and had been evading capture until recently.

The SLP personnel tracked him down in Makeni, where he was found hiding under a PVC roof at the residence of the university's Deputy Vice-Chancellor. During the apprehension, the university official and the caretaker were also taken into custody. It is yet to be known if they were involved in the coup attempt or were merely providing shelter to George Adams.

The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that justice is served. The general public is advised to cooperate with the authorities and report any suspicious activities that they may come across.

The recent arrests made by the Police Regional Commander North, Commander Aiah Edward Samadia, have been confirmed by him. He further added that the suspects are currently being held for investigation at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters. The authorities are closely scrutinizing the case to gather all the necessary evidence and information to ensure a fair and just investigation. The investigation process is ongoing, and the police are working tirelessly to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In recent news, it has been reported that the police have been taking strong measures to combat criminal activities in Makeni, including both the ongoing coup-related arrests and drug offences. In particular, the authorities have been focused on curtailing the distribution of Kush, a type of illegal drug that has become increasingly prevalent in the area.

According to official reports, as many as thirty-two young individuals have been detained for their involvement in activities related to Kush at various motor parks around Makeni. The police are currently conducting extensive investigations to uncover any potential links between these individuals and larger drug trafficking networks.

In addition to these enforcement measures, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has also been actively engaging with local communities in Makeni to address the issue of drug consumption and trafficking. It is hoped that these efforts will help to prevent further criminal activity and promote a safer environment for all residents of the area.

During a recent public address, Commander Samadia of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) highlighted the organization's unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of citizens and their properties. He went on to pledge the implementation of effective community policing measures, which would serve to enhance security and maintain law and order in Makeni.

These efforts are part of the SLP's larger mission to address security threats and societal challenges in Sierra Leone. The organization recognizes the importance of promoting peace and stability within the country and is taking significant steps to achieve this objective. Through collaboration with community members, law enforcement agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, the SLP is working tirelessly to create a safer and more secure environment for all Sierra Leoneans.
