Kambia District Council's new shops are becoming a disgusting dump

The Kambia District Council Stores, which were recently constructed, now appear to be an eyesore.

We are entering the year 2024. The Kambia district in Sierra Leone is facing major challenges. Unfortunately, the neighbourhood has earned the unfortunate title of the dirtiest city in the country.

Kambi media icons recently visited Bamoi Luma, where the newly built Rada stores have become a symbol of extreme hardship and filth. Additionally, the district is plagued by rampant malaria infections, making it an extremely dangerous place to live. With a total of 44 branches remaining unproductive, urgent action is required to address these pressing issues.

The project licensed by Kambia District Council to provide efficient services is funded by the European Union and the contractor is Landmark Construction & General Services. Kambia media icons will continue to monitor the situation and call on the Chief Administrator, President, Council Members, and all relevant authorities to take swift action.

Bamoi Luma, once considered a thriving trading centre, has become a symbol of abandonment and decay. Newly constructed businesses that stimulate economic activity have become a breeding ground for dirt and inconvenience. The lack of maintenance and cleanliness has created a hostile environment for suppliers and customers. This tragic situation led to the complete shutdown of economic activity, leaving 44 stores empty and unused. The Kambia District Council must take immediate action to remedy this situation by ensuring that regular cleaning and waste disposal practices are implemented to restore the functionality and attractiveness of the shops.

In addition to unsanitary conditions, Kambia district is struggling with a severe malaria epidemic. The high frequency of malaria infections has made this district one of the most dangerous places to live in Sierra Leone. The alarming spread of this deadly disease requires urgent attention from relevant authorities. The Kambia District Council, in collaboration with health authorities, must prioritize the implementation of comprehensive malaria prevention and control measures. This includes distributing insecticide-treated mosquito nets, regularly spraying household waste and educating communities on malaria prevention strategies. By addressing this public health crisis, local government can significantly improve the living conditions and overall safety of residents.

The situation in Kambia District is serious and Kambia media icons will continue to monitor and report on current issues. We urge the Chief Administrator, President, Advisors, and all relevant authorities to take immediate action. The Kambia District Council must provide resources and staff to address cleaning and maintenance issues at Bamoi Luma and other facilities. In addition, concerted efforts are needed to revive businesses and attract companies to the region. Unless immediate action is taken, the county will continue to suffer from economic stagnation and public health threats.

The current condition of Kambia District, particularly Bamoi Luma and Kambia II checkpoints, requires urgent attention and intervention. With the support of the European Union, the Kambia District Council has the opportunity to improve service delivery and the living conditions of its citizens. However, urgent issues related to extreme pollution, unproductive laboratories, and widespread malaria infections require immediate action.

Kambia media icons will continue to monitor the situation and advocate for necessary measures. We hope that the Chief Administrator, President, Councilors, and all relevant authorities will act promptly to address these challenges and restore Kambia District to its full potential.
